Hey Sara, I saw it on FB and then went to Livestream and rewound to watch the hatch, so cool!
On the other nest, E8 is having a really hard time of it. E7 is being relentlessly mean to 8. With very little food, I sure hope 8 makes it. I'm praying for the sweet little eaglet.

Well, it's been awhile since any eagle posts but I have news. I don't know if anyone continued to watch the Souestwest Florida Eagles Nest feed so just in case I'll catch everyone up. E7 and E8 had branched when they were attacked by an owl. Poor E8 ended up back at Crow and is still there. I get news from both SWF and Crow in my Facebook news feed and just got this one.
E8 UPDATE: There are no major updates to report this week other than the eaglet continues to eat well and remains bright and alert. While in the large flight enclosure, E8 continues to improve flying skills through daily conditioning and live prey hunting will be introduced soon.
We will have a detailed update next week when E8 receives a complete physical exam and radiographs. If anything should change prior to the exam we will keep you informed.
Below is a video of E8 practicing flying skills last week. We thank you for your continued support.
Other news is that the nest fell and therefore the beautiful new camera feeds have been turned off. Harriet has been seen in the nest area but no nest rebuilding yet. Cross your fingers for next nesting season.

I just got this on my Facebook page
E8 has been Released! After 3 months of rehabilitation at CROW - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc., E8 was released this morning just after 10:30am; flying into the west trees behind the farm at Dick Pritchett Real Estate. The eaglet arrived at CROW for the second time on May 13 with a broken femur in the right leg after being attacked by a great horned owl on May 7. After undergoing surgery to repair a broken femur in the right leg, E8 spent the next month recovering until the leg pins were removed. He (sex of the eaglet is unknown) spent several weeks in CROW’s large flight enclosure building strength in his right leg and learning how to master basic hunting skills needed to survive once released. CROW’s veterinary staff are satisfied that E8 is in top physical condition and has successfully been catching live and dead prey. E8 was banded prior to release so if he is found injured in the future he will be able to be identified. Other News

No adults were in the nest tree when I arrived. Harriet flew past the pastures, perched on the cell tower and then behind the shopping center. An hour later - one, then two, other eagles, perched on the cell tower and Harriet warned/defended her territory. She flew to other trees, called alerts and finally went back to the nest tree for 20 minutes before returning close to where the two eagles remained perched. Harriet also attempted to grab a branch (to take to the nest tree and show the 2 eagles the nest is claimed?) but missed the grab and remained near the 2 eagles.
I guess this means that Harriet will attempt to rebuild the nest that fell and we will have some babies to look forward to in the coming season. Yay!

Posted today on FacebookMany thanks to the ground photographers for their reports of Harriet & M both being seen in the nest area this weekend! M was even seen bringing some material into the nest tree!
No sighting of E8 after the release on Thursday but we are confident he/she is flying high & free. (photo by Desiree Deliz)

Posted today on Facebook Cams for Season 5 are NOW LIVE! We continue to test and have a few more updates to do over the next few days (including installing the IR light) but we couldn't wait to share with everyone! Save & Share this link to watch LIVE all year long: SWFLEagleCam.com
It looks like I missed posting about Harriet and M rebuilding the nest. I am assuming that they have made enough of a rebuild or the cams would not be up. I am looking forward to the season.
