Wow, I love animals too, but have fears, I know some started young from when my little brother was bit & had to endure shots for rabies, ugh back then was a mess. Love the stories & the pics too. Vee, as I'm sure you already know, you're not alone when it comes to having a fear of animals. A lot of people suffer from this type of fear for various reasons and it most always stems from something that happened during their childhood.
My next door neighbor has a fear of cats because of being attacked by one when she was a little girl. My cat is not a fraidy cat, she doesn't run and hide when someone visits, in fact, when she hears the doorbell ring she goes running to the door to greet them. lol She of course doesn't understand my neighbor is afraid of her so she is constantly trying to get my neighbor to pet her...which totally freaks my neighbor out! lol Her fear of cats is so bad that I sometimes have to take my cat and close her up in a room just so my neighbor can relax while she's here. This of course breaks my kitty's heart because she loves people and really enjoys having them visit.
But a fear of animals is a hard thing to overcome. I know, because I have a fear of pit bulls and no matter how hard I try not to be it's a fear that just won't go away. Mine stems from having my brother's pit bull run at me (many years ago) and back me up against a wall and dare me to move! Me and my sister were visiting my brother and his wife and during the night I got up to go the kitchen to get something to drink and the next thing I know his pit bull came barreling out of nowhere growling and showing me his teeth to me! It scared me so bad I couldn't even scream! I just flattened my self against the nearest wall and stood there holding my breath waiting for whatever that was about to happen. But luckily my brother heard all the racket he was making and came and call him off of me. I know pit bulls get a bum rap and that all of them aren't alike, but I'm afraid my fear of them is something I simply cannot overcome.

Sara, I just have to say that you have a special gift for making members feel good about what they have posted. I have noticed it many times before and have neglected to tell you. Often I have had second thoughts about what I have written and then I read a reply from you and think I guess what I posted was o.k. Thank you for your positive reinforcement and for just being you!

These are just a few of my toads. These toads are an endangered species, but they seem to thrive in my backyard. The far right shows a bit of a sanctuary I made for them. I used driftwood and flower pots to make ponds. They love it. This time of year, at night, they are so loud you can't hear yourself think. They are also poisonous. They have glands on them that produce a poison to protect them from predators. All of my dogs have caught one once and only once. It's unpleasant causing the predators to foam at the mouth. My dogs would shake their heads and spit a bit but it last less than a minute then they're fine but they don't repeat it. In the critter world toads and frogs were my first love's. My mom said that around 3 or 4 years old, I would get her good tea cups and give them baths then dry them with her good hand towels. I don't remember that but I do remember ruining my pretty birthday dress on my 5th B-Day when one had an accident all down the front of my dress. It was fine with me, I got to take off that stupid dress and put on shorts and a t-shirt, more my style. As you can see my love of toads and frogs hasn't changed.

Thank you for the kind words, Callie. Greatly appreciated! Fellow Oodlers Chat has not only been a great place to stay in the know and learn things about the game site, it has also been a great place to meet and get to know some truly wonderful people such as yourself. You guys really do mean a lot to me and it's important to me that you know it. So if I sometimes yak a little too much in my comments it's because there's so much to be said about you. Thanks for being here Callie and for doing such a great job of Moderating the message board games. You're a top notch Lady!

I have told you about the dike before and the little ducklings that swim in the stream. Now I will tell you about Eeyore, who lives on the other side of the stream, about a mile into the woods. As we walk along it is so quiet and peaceful. We have seen Bald Eagles soaring in the sky above the trees and hear the chirping birds everywhere. Coming around a bend, we can see across the stream a mystery house or should I say an estate. Hidden mostly by trees, we can still appreciate the size and beautiful architecture of this home. The perfectly manicured lawns roll down the hill to the stream and there is a dock from the lawns into the stream. To the left of the house is an outbuilding with a row of windows, not appearing to be a garage. We wondered what it was. Walking further we could see fenced pastures with beautiful shiny horses, 2-dark colored and one white. So the out building was definitely to house the horses. Before passing by we heard a strange noise and then the most adorable little gray donkey, half hidden by the trees, appeared and was braying his presence. We later named him Eeyore. We have walked the dike for three years and each year we search anxiously for Eeyore, hoping he has lived through the winter snows. We saw him last week, peeking out from behind a shrub and happily life along the dike seemed to be in order again.

Great story callie! It sounds so peaceful and wonderful. The way you describe everything in beautiful detail it's like I'm there. Keep the stories coming!

You put me right there in the moment with everything you said. What a wonderful little story! I actually found myself smiling when little Eeyore made his presence known and we all learned that he is indeed okay and that ..."happily life along the dike seemed to be in order again." >>> What a superb ending! Really looking forward to your next installment of life along the dike.

I never knew this board was here until today. So I apologize for all the "Likes" on your posts. We have 5 dogs here at my parents house. A 4 or 5 year old male Bassett Hound that belongs to my cousin & her two kids (Jackson), a male Chihuahua/dachshund mix (Peanut), a 12 or 13 year old male long haired Chihuahua (Chico), a short haired female Chihuahua (Tink), & a male boxer that is somewhere between 10-12 years old (Bentley). Tink & Bentley are both mine. I got Tink in June of 2005 when she was six weeks old. I got to see her mom & dad & all her sisters & brothers. My fiancé & I took in Bentley at the end of July 2013. So we have only had him for a little over a year now. He is a "special needs" dog. He has separation anxiety VERY BAD. We can't leave him home alone because he freaks out & does damage to himself. IF for any reason someone is not able to be at the house with him, we have to dress him with a long sleeve shirt, a cone around his neck, & boots on all four paws. And even with all of that, he still manages to tear the boots off at times & cause himself damage. He is definitely a handful, but everyone loves him. We all call him a big baby because of all the attention he always expects to get. He loves people. When strangers come to the house he runs up to them & makes them pet him lol. Now that I have moved home to Gulfport, MS I started working again. My fiancé is a truck driver so he is usually only home a few days a month. We are currently looking for our own place, & since neither of us will be home I think we are going to have to put him down. I've tried finding him a new home, but everyone that has been interested said "no" after finding out about his "issues". Here are some pics of Bentley. I tried to put some pictures of the other dogs on here, but it's saying all the other pics are too large. =(
The first one is Bentley & I in my fiancés truck. We took him on the road with us once. We were only out for about 3 weeks & never again will we bring Bentley lol. The last one (sorry if it grosses any of you out) is Bentley doing what he loves to do...taking car rides with his head out of the window.

Hi lelee, More about Bentley. We have relatives that had a beautiful black lab. He developed a separation anxiety as an old dog. He did not hurt himself but absolutely tore the room to pieces--pulled up carpet, shredded draperies. It was unreal the damage he could do! He was so loved and had been with them so long that I know they didn't do away with him. I think I remember that they may have put him on some kind of medication. I will check into it.

Our vet has told us about the pills. Unfortunately, they are expensive & right now we can't afford to put him on them. I've tried the lavender diffusers & lavender collar that you can purchase at PetSmart & neither of them worked. Also tried the over-the-counter pills for dogs with separation anxiety from PetSmart & they didn't help either, so I'm afraid to spend all that money on the pills from the vet & then they end up not working.
